Welcome
Welcome to the Highland Biodiversity website. Here you can find information on biodiversity, biodiversity planning, and action taken to raise awareness and improve or protect habitats and species in Highland.
Since the Highland Biodiversity Project was started in 2002, over £500,000 of new funding has been has been spent on biodiversity action and planning in Highland. Over two thirds of this money (£357,500) was targeted towards local biodiversity projects. Seven Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs) have been produced, over 125 projects delivered and over 200 awareness-raising events held across the seven LBAP areas.
Of larger strategic biodiversity issues, Invasive Non-native Species (INNS) has had the most success in delivering or initiating projects. Mapping Priority INNS in Highland has been completed and projects for control of Giant Hogweed and Highland Rhododendron are underway. These projects total over £60,000.
This website is maintained on behalf of the Highland Biodiversity Partnership by the Highland Biodiversity Officers, who are employed by Highland Council.
